Epoch 12V 314Ah Eco Series FAQs
Common questions about inverter sizing, Eco Series features, cold-weather protection, waterproofing, and expansion.
What is the difference between the Eco Series and the Epoch Essentials/Pro Series?
The Eco Series is designed to deliver maximum capacity and power at the most competitive price point. It does not include Bluetooth monitoring or internal heating pads, and it uses an IP54 weather-resistant enclosure. It carries an 11-year limited warranty: 3 years of free replacement, then 40% off MSRP on a replacement battery through Year 11. Essential and Pro models add premium features such as Bluetooth, active heating or higher IP ratings, depending on the model. If you want raw, reliable power and massive capacity on a budget, the Eco Series is the value-focused choice.
What size inverter can this 12V 314Ah battery run?
The 250A continuous BMS allows the battery to continuously output roughly 3,200 watts at 12.8V before inverter efficiency losses. That makes it a strong match for many 3000W inverter systems when the cables, fusing, inverter settings, and installation are sized correctly. The 750A rating covers surges of up to 5 seconds only, such as a microwave, induction cooktop, or compressor starting. Size the system by the inverter's DC input current, which must stay within 250A; usable AC output is lower because of conversion losses.
Can I connect these 314Ah batteries in series or parallel?
Yes. The Epoch 12V 314Ah Eco Series supports up to 4 batteries in series for 24V, 36V, or 48V systems, and up to 16 batteries in parallel for expanded 12V capacity; the largest bank is 4S16P (64 batteries: 51.2V, 5,024Ah, 257.23kWh). Use batteries of the same model, age, capacity, and state of charge, fully charge each one before connecting it, and use matched cabling, proper fusing, and charging equipment rated for the full bank voltage.
Does this battery have cold-weather protection?
Yes. The Eco Series does not include active internal heating pads, but it does include low-temperature charge protection. Below 0°C (32°F), the BMS blocks incoming charge current to help protect the LiFePO4 cells, and the battery can still discharge down to -20°C / -4°F. Charge only between 0°C and 55°C (32°F and 131°F): move a cold battery somewhere warmer and let it stabilize before charging, and never bypass the protection.
Is the Eco Series battery waterproof?
The 12V 314Ah Eco Series has an IP54-rated weather-resistant enclosure. It is protected against dust and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for RV compartments, battery boxes, off-grid cabins, and protected marine spaces. It is not waterproof or submersible: do not submerge or pressure-wash it, or install it where standing water can collect around the battery.
How much does this battery weigh compared to lead-acid?
The Epoch 12V 314Ah battery weighs 57 lb. Comparable lead-acid or AGM banks with similar practical usable energy can weigh far more and take up significantly more space, especially because lead-acid batteries are commonly limited to about 50% usable depth of discharge. The exact weight savings depends on the lead-acid bank being replaced.
Does the 314Ah Eco Series include Bluetooth or internal heating?
No. This Eco Series model is built for simplified, high-capacity value. It does not include Bluetooth monitoring or internal self-heating. Use an external shunt-based battery monitor, such as the Victron SmartShunt 500A/50mV sold by Epoch, if your system needs app-based visibility; voltage alone is not a precise state-of-charge reading on LiFePO4.
What charger settings should I use?
Use a LiFePO4-compatible charger, such as the Epoch 12V 15A Lithium Battery Charger, or a converter, inverter charger, solar charge controller, or DC-to-DC charger programmed for LiFePO4. Recommended settings include 14.2V–14.4V bulk/absorption, ending when the current falls to C/20 (about 15.7A) or after 15 minutes, float disabled preferred or 13.3V–13.6V, 13.2V re-bulk, equalization disabled, and temperature compensation disabled. Charge at up to 157A (recommended) and never more than 250A from all sources combined; a smaller charger is suitable, it simply takes longer.
