Why use a lithium-specific charger?
Safer charging. Better performance. Longer battery life.
LiFePO4 batteries do not charge the same way as traditional lead-acid batteries. A lithium-compatible charger helps the battery reach a proper charge voltage without lead-acid desulfation or equalization routines that may be unsafe for lithium cells and BMS electronics.
Frequently asked questions
Common questions about 12V LiFePO4 charging, RV use, marine use, and charger compatibility.
How long will it take to charge my battery with this 15A charger?
Charging time depends on the battery’s capacity and starting state of charge. As a simple estimate, divide the battery’s amp-hour rating by 15. A fully depleted 12V 50Ah battery may take a little over 3 hours, while a 100Ah battery may take about 6 to 7 hours before any final balancing or absorption time.
Can I use this charger on my old lead-acid or AGM batteries?
No. This charger is designed for 12V Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries. Lead-acid, AGM, gel, and flooded batteries use different charging profiles, so they should be charged with a charger specifically designed for that chemistry.
Is it safe to leave this charger connected after the battery is full?
The charger includes overcharge protection and is designed for safe LiFePO4 charging. For long-term storage, always follow the battery manufacturer’s storage instructions and avoid leaving charging equipment connected indefinitely in an unattended or wet environment.
Can I use this to charge a 24V or 36V trolling motor system?
No. This model is designed exclusively for 12V LiFePO4 battery systems. A 24V, 36V, 48V, or 72V lithium battery system requires a charger with the correct matching voltage.
Is the Epoch 12V 15A charger waterproof?
Yes, the charger is IP67 rated for dustproof and waterproof protection. It is built for demanding RV, marine, and outdoor environments, but AC power connections should still be kept safe, dry, and compliant with the installation environment.
What type of connector does this charger use?
The charger uses ring terminal output connectors, making it well suited for secure semi-permanent connections to 12V LiFePO4 battery terminals in RV, marine, garage, and off-grid setups.
What size battery is this 15 amp charger best for?
The 15A output is a strong match for many 12V LiFePO4 batteries in the 50Ah to 100Ah range, including small marine batteries, kayak power systems, RV house batteries, and portable off-grid power banks. It can also charge larger 12V lithium batteries, but charge time will increase proportionally.
Charging and safety note
Confirm battery chemistry and voltage before use.
Always verify that your battery is a compatible 12V LiFePO4 battery before connecting the charger. Check terminal polarity, cable routing, ventilation, installation environment, and battery manufacturer charging requirements before use. Do not use this 12V charger on higher-voltage battery systems or on batteries with incompatible chemistry.
